How we work

Het Kompas is a Christian primary school for children aged 4 to 12 in Maasdijk, with the motto 'The right course for every child'. The school is open to every pupil and offers a safe pedagogical climate with a good education and care structure.

Het Kompas wants to be a safe, pleasant place for children, parents and teachers, with open and good communication. The school works from three core values: well-being is a precondition for learning, children grow up and develop as much as possible in their own environment, and the right course for every child. The Bible is the source for the school's pedagogical and didactic approach.

Together with parents and children, the school looks at what the child wants and needs to learn, with attention to both the subjects and social development. The school starts from what a child can already do and what they are good at. No child is the same: every child is unique and learns in their own way, and the school takes that into account as much as possible.

For safety, the class teacher gives PAD lessons on social-emotional development up to group 8, around self-image, self-control, emotions and problem solving. Two qualified teachers give Rots en Water, aimed at social skills and preventing bullying and conflicts, and Taakspel promotes task focus and a pleasant atmosphere in class. For arithmetic, language and reading the school uses methods, with extra explanation in small groups or extra challenge where needed. There is also attention for culture, English and movement.

At school, before-school care is available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30. After-school care is provided by Kwest in a room inside the school building, also on study days and during holidays.
