How we work
The Eerste Westlandse Montessorischool in Monster is a general-denominational Montessori school, founded in 1988. The school works from Maria Montessori's vision, with much attention to experiencing and explaining nature, technology and science and to developing cultural skills.
The core of Montessori education is creating space for the child, so that it can develop to the fullest into a harmonious, socially minded person. The school follows the original inspiration of Maria Montessori and keeps developing on the basis of new didactic, pedagogical and social insights.
Children differ in aptitude, learning style, interests and pace. Respect for that individual development is central. The team observes carefully, actively looks for each child's potential and educational needs, and stimulates maximum development for every child. Parents are equal partners in this.
The school has 15 mixed-age groups and a Montessori toddler section for children aged 2.5 to 4. Besides the challengingly furnished classrooms there are a learning lab, science lab, cooking lab, green lab, movement lab for sport and dance and a music lab, where children give shape to wonder, inquiry and the acquisition of knowledge.
Peace education is part of Montessori education: children are raised to take responsibility for their learning, actions and living together, with self-worth, independence and trust as goals. In all groups the moral compass is visibly present.
