How we work
OBS De Vlieten in De Lier is a green, neighbourhood-focused school with personal attention for every child. The school believes real growth begins with connection and offers an environment where differences between children are embraced rather than seen as a problem. Outdoor learning and inquiry-based gardening have a permanent place in the curriculum.
De Vlieten is a Green School, with a lot of attention for nature, sustainability and outdoor learning.
The school profiles itself explicitly as small-scale and personal: every child is seen, and differences in background or beliefs are explicitly welcomed. The starting point that real growth begins with connection runs as a common thread through the way teachers deal with children and parents.
Through the combination of green, outdoor-oriented activities and a small-scale, neighbourhood-focused setting, De Vlieten offers an environment in which children can develop at their own pace, with attention for both the cognitive and social side of learning.
In 2026, De Vlieten received the Klassewerkplek 2026 award: the team experiences a strong sense of workplace happiness, and the pupils notice this every day.
