How we work
CBS De Ark is a small-scale Christian primary school with a warm and safe atmosphere, part of SCO Delft e.o. The school works from three pillars: togetherness, ownership and responsibility. Everyone is welcome and every child can be themselves.
A warm and safe atmosphere is central at CBS De Ark. The school has a Christian background and attaches great value to respect, care for one another and a safe environment. Children learn to treat each other with respect, to take responsibility and to look out for others and the world around them. Everyone is welcome and every child can be themselves and feel seen and valued.
The vision rests on three pillars: togetherness, ownership and responsibility. Children learn to work together, to own their own learning process and to be independent while looking out for each other, nature and their surroundings. The school believes that every child has talent. In talent conversations, children get to know their own talents and learn to use them on purpose.
In the morning, children follow the core subjects of arithmetic, language, writing, spelling and reading in year groups. In the afternoon they work in units on integrated world-orientation subjects, together with children from other groups, including inquiry-based and design-based learning, philosophy, citizenship and science and technology. Children set goals, discuss their development in child conversations and keep track of their progress in a portfolio.
For children in groups 5 to 8 there is a workshop class for those who learn mainly by doing, and a challenge group for those who can handle extra challenge. Since 2022, De Ark has been a healthy school in the field of exercise and sport, and it deliberately alternates effort and relaxation.
