How children are placed

Placement happens at one moment, for all children from the same registration period at the same time. So no one benefits from being quick.
How children are placed
After the registration period closes, each school reviews how many registrations there are. Are there enough places for all registered children? Then, after a review of support needs, all children are placed at their first-choice school.

Priority rules

Are there more registrations than places? Then the school applies priority rules. There are two priority rules:
1. Sibling. Does your child have a brother or sister already at the school? Then your child gets priority. This rule applies at all schools.
2. Childcare in the same building. Does your child attend childcare in the same building as the school? Then your child may get priority, provided the child attends that childcare for at least four months, two half-days per week (8 hours), before their third birthday. Note: this rule does not apply at all schools. Check with the school whether this priority rule applies.

No priority based on where you live

Where you live has no effect on placement. No priority is given based on postcode or distance to the school.

Priority rules only apply to first choice

The priority rules only apply to the school you listed as your first choice. No priority rules apply to the second and third school.

Timeline

Within one week after the registration period closes you receive news about the placement. If your child needs extra support, the school may take four weeks longer.
