Settling-in days and first day of school

Before your child really starts, they may come by a few times to get used to it. That way, the first day of school is not a leap into the unknown.
Settling-in days and first day of school
Before your child officially starts at school, there are settling-in days. These are introduction days on which your child can get used to the school, the teacher and the other children.

What are settling-in days?

Settling-in days are short visits to the school before your child really starts. Usually there are 3 to 5 settling-in days in the weeks before the real first day of school. Every school shapes this in its own way.

Tips for a smooth start

✓Talk positively about school and the teacher at home
✓Let your child get to know the school environment, for example by cycling or walking past it
✓Make sure your child goes to school well rested
✓Give your child something familiar to bring along if that helps, such as a cuddly toy
✓Don't make the first school days too long if your child needs that

The first day of school

On the real first day of school, you may bring your child to the classroom. The teacher will tell you how pick-up works and what the daily schedule is. Some schools organise a welcome moment for parents.
Contact the school where your child is enrolled. They will tell you everything about the settling-in days and the first day of school.
