Together on the way to a great start at school

One central place to choose a primary school and register in the municipality of Westland. From first orientation to the first day of school.

Starting primary school for the first time: how it works

Is your child about to turn 2? Then it's time to start looking at which primary school suits them best. You register your child around their third birthday. Children may start school from their fourth birthday.
In Westland, all primary schools register together through this one website. That means you don't need to visit every school separately, you can see at a glance which schools are in your area, and the same rules and periods apply to everyone. That makes it clearer for you and fairer for all children.
Use the schools overview and visit several schools, so you get a good picture and can make a choice.
There are fixed registration periods. You register your child in the period in which they turn 3.
Within one week after the registration period closes, you will hear from the school where your child will be placed.
You will receive an enrolment form to finalise the placement. Your child is welcome at school from age 4.

Frequently asked questions

When do I register my child?

You register your child in the registration year in which they turn 3. The registration year runs from 1 October to 30 September. Within that year, every child has a fixed registration period based on their birth quarter.

What if a school is full?

If there are more registrations than places, the priority rules apply first and then a draw is held. If there is no place at your first-choice school, we look at the next school on your list. That is why you list several schools in order of preference.

Can I list more than one school?

Yes. You list several schools in order of preference. The more schools you list, the greater the chance your child is placed at one of your preferred schools.
